Calming Care

Our team at Latham Animal Hospital understands that for some animals, coming to the clinic is not an eagerly anticipated trip. We do everything we can to help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in all pets. We have separate dog and cat entrances and waiting rooms, as well as clinically proven calming pheromone-treated bandanas and blankets for dogs and  cats.  We have a dedicated ‘cats only’ examination room, complete with a nature sound machine, as well as a cat-only ward.  Every team member at our clinic has been trained in gentle, low-stress handling and restraint.  When at all possible, we do procedures in the room with the pet parents, to help reduce stress from being separated.  We also have owners utilize cat and dog travel packs, which contain pheromones and a low dose of calming medication which can be administered to your pet in advance of their appointment, to make travel to and time at the clinic much less stressful for everyone involved. If your pet is one who is susceptible to fear, anxiety, or stress coming to the veterinarian, call and request a travel pack in advance.
