Senior Pet Care

We understand that taking care of senior animals can be a daunting experience, and that’s why we strive to make it as easy as possible for pet owners.

Senior Pet Care

At Latham Animal Hospital, we believe that as dogs and cats get older, they need more care and attention to help them remain fit and healthy. We understand the unique needs of your older pet and will work together with you to help tailor a plan to help your pet be comfortable and happy in their golden years. The risks of arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hormone disorders, and kidney and liver problems all increase with age. Dogs and cats are good at hiding illness and may not show any signs of even serious diseases until they are quite advanced so finding and treating early is key. This means more frequent comprehensive physical exams and a baseline diagnostic work-up. In addition, our veterinarians can improve your senior pet’s quality of life in many ways: by identifying and preventing or reducing pain, recommending an appropriate nutrition and exercise plan, and suggesting environmental modifications to keep your pet comfortable.
